Estimathon with Jane Street

Greetings!
Jane Street is hosting a virtual Estimathon! An Estimathon is a favorite game amongst Streeters that brings together math and trivia.

Please forward or share the below information/message with club members and friends who might be interested in joining in on the fun!

Jane Street will be hosting a virtual ESTIMATHON!
Wednesday, 12 May@ 6:00pm CEST
Hosted via Zoom

Register as an individual* here by Friday 7 May, or contact FARM by Wednesday 5 May to be assigned a team with other Chalmers students.

The Estimathon! is a mind bending mixture of math and trivia. In teams, you’ll attempt 13 Fermi problems in 30 minutes, ranging from totally trivial to positively Putnamesque. Be prepared to come up with the best set of confidence intervals! Sample problems include:

How many stop signs are in New York City?
How many babies were born in 1900?
How many Social Security Numbers are prime?

Typically when we come to campus, we bring swag. Since we can’t meet in-person, we will provide guests access to order one of our 2021 t-shirts!

*Estimathon is a team-based competition. If participants want to create teams, they can do so, however, we will require individuals to register and confirm their team name. If you want to be assigned a team with other Chalmers students contact FARM through Facebook or farm.vordf@ftek.se.
